"The Wall"

I write our names on the wall

so others see us

as we disappear forever into time

      No different than women

      who walked before me

      in heated sun

            icing wind

                 pouring rain

       An endless line of time

       different faces, different places

       knowing love

           giving birth

               making meals

       listening for the sound of children

       waiting for the enemy

       knowing he will come

             praying for time

                to hide babies

                   while holding weapons.

  I write our names on the wall
